Island Delight Restaurant and Catering, Inc. Island Delight will offer its customers a unique tast of the Caribbean flavor and a combination of uniquely themed catering options in a Christian setting. Chris McLaughlin had a dream when she moved to Indianapolis, to open a restaurant where she could introduce Jamaican cuisine to Indianapolis residents who might not be familiar with the delicious food of the Islands. Chris says "...Jamaican food is thoroughly seasoned with more than just black pepper and salt. The wide array of seasonings bring out the flavor of the Island without overpowering the natural goodness of the raw ingredients.," in an article written about the Restaurant's opening in the Indianapolis Star, "Eating Out: East"
Christine McLaughlin, Owner and Operator I grew up on a farm in the Island of Jamaica with my grandparents. I was always by grandmother's side as she cooked and fixed the lunches for the men that worked for my grandfather. In 1977, my family migrated from Jamaica to Cleveland, Ohio where I worked as an operational manager in a family run business. After twenty years in the family business, I decided that I had outgrown it and now it's time for me to open my own business. I knew I was ready to be a businesswoman especially with all the hands on experience that I had gained over the years. I started out in Cleveland, Ohio with "Island Delight Catering and Concession," and in 2004, I was able to open the "Island Delight Restaurant and Catering, Inc." three months after moving to Indianapolis and continue my love of cooking and offering authentic jerk and curry dishes. I also decided to keep the name Island Delight because of it's reference to my homeland, island, and it tells what I have to offer my customers, a delight to their senses. Customer testimonials... "... we left quite full, with the sense of satisfaction that goes with stepping outside our culinary comfort zone, still smiling at the parting words of the owner: Thank you for coming. It was nice to meet you. Should we return one day, perhaps we'll make the move to the communal table reserved for regulars..." --Julie Cope Saetre INtake Correspondent Two for the $20: Island Delight: Jamaica me hungry! "...when my plate-piling turn came, I chose stew and jerk chicken, calypso rice, stuffing and green beans. I'm a wimp when it comes to spicy food, so I knew I was in trouble when my hot sauce-addicted husband had to wipe his eyes after a bite of the jerk chicken. I was successful in finishing mine and, ignoring my tingling mouth, I found the stew chicken to be more my speed... we headed back up for a piece of delicious, moist pound cake. It had been calling my name... Eating at Island Delight made us feel right at home, free to get seconds (or thirds) and relaxed by our quick and caring service..." --Kate Johnson Indianapolis Star and News Thank you for a well planned and delivered luncheon. Your professionalism and dedication goes beyond a paycheck. I just enjoy working with you. I can give you a task and not worry about it. |
